‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ In Grand Rapids
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in Grand Rapids, Mich., and, according to the local weatherman, it’s going to be a white one, too.
Little flurries of snow floated through the chilly air today, but, for now, the ground is dry. It was a rather cold — but otherwise perfect — evening for a stroll around my city. I walked past young folks skating at the Rosa Parks Circle outdoor ice rink, horses pulling a white carriage, and many buildings and trees decorated in twinkling lights.
The most impressive festive displays I found were the Ellis Parking ramp on Pearl Street NW, the Amway Grand Hotel, Rosa Parks Circle and Van Andel Arena.
As the holidays near, family and friends come to call. A fun outing to entertain your out-of-towners in Grand Rapids is a night at the theater. Last week I saw Mary Poppins at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre — the fifth largest community theater in the United States! It was a fantastic production full of funny moments, impressive special effects and all the classic songs you’ll recall from the Disney film, including “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” The annual holiday musical was such a success this year that Civic has added additional shows this weekend, Dec. 19-21. You can purchase your ticket here, and then click on “Order Your Tickets for the Show NOW!” on the top right corner.
Another option for live entertainment this weekend is “The Nutcracker” performed by the Grand Rapids Ballet. When I checked for tickets tonight, there were some balcony seats still available for the Friday performance. You can learn more about the production and purchase tickets here.
Whether you’ll be in Grand Rapids or elsewhere this year, I wish you happy holidays!
Wish you were here,
